Focus on Structure, Not Memorization | Answering "Why Are You Leaving?"

Ep.6: Learn the framework instead of memorizing entire answers

Rather than trying to memorize entire answers (which often leads to robotic delivery when you're nervous 😂), it's much more effective to learn the structure and key transitional phrases.

In today's episode, we'll examine an HR professional's answer to "Why are you leaving your current company?" and break down the essential framework you can adapt for your own interviews.

The Basic Answer - A Strong Foundation

"The public theater where I'm currently working is a place where people genuinely want to stay, so the managers don't leave very often."

"I've gained valuable experience in HR-related operations here and really enjoyed working with my supportive team."

"However, there weren't many opportunities to grow within the company. I've reached the point where I wish to deepen my understanding of HR planning and management."

"That's why I'm looking for an opportunity to further develop my professional skills and expand my horizon. I believe your company offers exactly that."

Adding More Detail While Maintaining Structure

Let's enhance this answer while preserving its strong framework:

"I have really enjoyed my time at the public theater. It's honestly a great place to work. The environment is so positive that managers rarely leave!"

Start with a positive impression - never begin with negative reasons for leaving

"I have gained really valuable experience in HR operations there and have had the chance to work with an amazing team."

Praise your current workplace first 😄 (Channel your inner Buddha... You can do it!) Show that leaving wasn't an easy decision - you have a good place to return to 🕶️

"The thing is, while it's a fantastic workplace, the structure is pretty flat with long-term managers who've been there for years. It's actually a testament to how good the place is! ☺️"

Tactfully address organizational limitations without being negative "It was a fantastic workplace, but..."

"But at this point in my career, I'm looking to deepen my understanding of HR planning and take on more leadership responsibilities. I feel ready to broaden my skills and expand my professional horizons."

Express desire for leadership roles and professional growth Show ambition to expand your career horizons

"I have thought about this carefully, and I believe now is the right time to seek new challenges that align with my career goals. What attracts me to your company specifically is the opportunity to grow in the HR field and contribute at a higher level."

Emphasize that you've thought deeply about leaving Conclude by connecting to why you're applying to this specific company

Remember the Framework, Not Every Word

✓ Begin positively about current job ✓ Praise what you've learned and the people there ✓ Tactfully mention limitations without negativity ✓ Focus on your career growth and aspirations ✓ Show you've carefully considered this move ✓ Connect your goals to what the new company offers

Our Mission

Remember, our mission isn't about perfect grammar or pronunciation, but clearly communicating your thoughts to the interviewer.

Your 5-Minute Practice

Take a few minutes to apply this framework to your own situation. Focus on the structure rather than memorizing exact phrases. Practice saying your answer out loud to make it feel natural.
